Inspired.
Recently, I’ve been enthralled by the opportunities in my daily life. Since I last blogged, I’ve encountered places, people, and moments that have inspired me deeply.
One of those moments was seeing a painting by Ali C. titled Dreamer. It captured my attention at an event because it reminded me of my beautiful daughter, Dana. Her essence radiates beauty not only on the outside, but also from within—through her laughter, smile, sense of humor, and compassion.
This painting can be purchased for $2,800 at The Spiral Staircase in Tampa, FL. I receive no commission to promote it, but if you love it and feel moved to buy it for me, you now know where to find it (wink).
I often use imagery to inspire my writing, and this photo was it for me this month.
While attending the University of South Florida’s Women in Leadership and Philanthropy (WLP) Conversations and Cocktails event, I met some of the most creative, innovative, empowered—and yes, inspiring—women. They were doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, CEOs, teachers, and nonprofit leaders: a collective force to be reckoned with.
These women possess voices that teach, heal, lead, empower, and soothe. United, they could run the world. They are strong women with a tenderness for others—embodying the harmony of education, expertise, empathy, and strength that both the corporate and nonprofit worlds desperately need.
Their voices are powerful yet compassionate. They thrive rather than merely survive, and they pass that philosophy on to younger women.
Finding Your Voice
As a woman, how loud is your voice? Is it assured and strong? Can it command attention?
“A woman with a voice is, by definition, a strong woman.” – Melinda Gates
Not your physical voice, but your intellectual, spiritual, soulful, emotional one. Does your voice think of others besides itself? Are you a follower as well as a leader? Do you build others up or tear them down? Do you purr or roar? Are you fearful—or courageous?
“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’” – Mary Anne Radmacher
Authentic Servant Leadership
As a woman of faith, I believe in authentic, servant leadership.
Authentic leadership is a style where leaders lead with integrity, transparency, and their core values, while being self-aware and genuine.
Servant leadership is a style where leaders prioritize the needs, growth, and well-being of others above their own.
Combined Authentic Servant Leadership can be defined as:
A leadership approach that integrates self-awareness, transparency, and integrity (authentic leadership) with a deep commitment to serving and empowering others (servant leadership). Authentic servant leaders lead from their true values, prioritize the growth of others, and foster trust, collaboration, and purpose within their organizations and communities.
Key Characteristics:
Self-awareness: Knowing one’s strengths, values, and motives.
Empathy and humility: Placing others’ needs above ego or status.
Integrity: Acting consistently with core values and principles.
Empowerment: Helping others grow and succeed.
Purpose-driven: Leading with meaning and a sense of service.
Trust and transparency: Building genuine, honest relationships.
