A quote from Michelle Obama struck me as a personal challenge. I admire reading about Michelle Obama, her accomplishments both personally and professionally, her determination to choose the high road when others do not, and her perseverance as a young girl growing up on Chicago's southside.
My husband and I spent many years in the Chicagoland area working in ministry, including on the southside, where our children attended middle and high school. Coming from Kansas, urban life was a journey of personal growth in understanding, patience, tolerance, and humility. We were unfamiliar with the culture, and it was unfamiliar with us.
That's why CHANGE was necessary. It began with finding mentors in our dear friends, Steve and Diane Harper. We shared birthdays, marriages, and ministries. We looked after each other's children and still maintain a connection with them. Diane is a strong, proud African American woman and my personal Shero. Steve is a storyteller who makes you feel at ease within minutes and is a proud African American man. We cherish these people and consider them "friends like family."
Steve and Diane taught us how to adapt to our new environment. They were straightforward yet loving, courageous yet humble, spiritual and godly, practical yet firm in their teachings to us and those around them. They are now retired, and Diane is my Facebook warrior who supports and encourages us daily.

It can, especially when you have prayed for it. This past year has been one of change, and it continues. I reached a milestone birthday, and we celebrated 47 years of marriage in May.
I realized we needed an update, so...
We relocated to Florida for new jobs and a new home.
We welcomed another pet into our household - Loki, a 5-year-old Yorkshire terrier.
I embraced my natural hair, my wrinkles, and my skin being sun-kissed (safely).
I revamped my LLC with a new name, new images, new state licensing, but maintained the same high-quality services.
